"Um, Um, Um, Um, Um, Um" is a 1964 single by Major Lance. The single was written by Curtis Mayfield and produced by Okeh label president, Carl Davis.[1] The song was Major Lance's third release to make the Billboard Hot 100 and his most successful hit. "Um, Um, Um, Um, Um, Um" went to number five on the Hot 100 and number one on the Cash Box R&B chart.[2] A cover version was released in the UK in 1964 by Wayne Fontana and The Mindbenders and reached #5 there.
In 1974, Major Lance recorded the song as a disco version, peaking at number fifty-nine on the Billboard soul singles chart.
Johnny Rivers' 1977 remake (as "Curious Mind (Um, Um, Um, Um, Um, Um)") became River's last Hot 100 hit. It was also covered by Huey Lewis and the News as part of their Live at 25 concert CD and DVD.
In 2011, the original Major Lance recording was used in a television commercial for Kraft mozzarella cheese.
